Cumberland Council is advising residents and road users that the ongoing road improvement works on the A5086 Gote Brow, Cockermouth, have been delayed due to recent weather conditions.
Carriageway resurfacing is now scheduled to be completed on Tuesday 17 March. The road closure will then be removed, and the road will reopen on Wednesday 18 March, when two‑way temporary traffic lights will be in operation until Friday 27 March. This will allow our highways team to complete the remaining footway reconstruction works.
During the road closure until Tuesday 17 March, access for residents will be limited between 7.30am and 6.00pm. Traffic marshals will be on site throughout the works and will assist residents in accessing their properties when it is safe to do so.
Full access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles (blue/green lights only), pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists.
Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal. Passengers with bus route enquiries are encouraged to contact Stagecoach directly.
Cumberland Council would like to thank the local community for their continued patience and support while these essential improvement works are completed.
