Cumbria Adult Learning is offering a wide range of courses to help learners enhance employment skills, explore new hobbies, and improve wellbeing.
A full range of courses is now live on the Cumbria Adult Learning website.
There are courses leading to qualifications in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages, digital skills, employability, health and wellbeing and greener curriculum, starting at Entry Level to Level 1 and 2. No previous qualifications are needed to start these courses and they are a friendly and supportive way to enhance CVs, build skills and boost confidence.
Other courses - such as arts and crafts, languages, and some health and wellbeing courses - do not lead to a formal qualification but offer a great way to enjoy new experiences with the community.
Brochures will be available from the six main Cumbria Adult Learning centres (Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow, Kendal and Penrith), in major libraries, and from key partner organisations - as well as in digital form online.
For employers, Cumbria Adult Learning has an exciting new skills programme providing training for both employed people and job seekers. Skills Bridge is a package of free, bespoke training supporting workforce excellence. More information can be found on the Cumbria Adult Learning website.
Cumbria Adult Learning is rated ‘Good’ overall by Ofsted with two areas graded as ‘Outstanding,’ - including the personal development achieved by learners.
This recognition reflects the quality of teaching, learner support and results that Cumbria Adult Learning continues to deliver. Ninety-eight per cent of learners were satisfied with their course and 97 per cent said it met their expectations. There has never been a better time to take the next step into learning.
Learners are supported throughout their course by expert staff. One learner said recently: “My tutor was a really great teacher. I felt fully supported throughout the course. Thank you.”
All skills courses are entirely free and others may be subsidised, subject to terms and conditions, and therefore offered at lower or no cost to learners. Anyone interested should visit the Adult Learning website for more information and to find their local Cumbria Adult Learning centre.

Councillor Janet Battye, Westmorland and Furness Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, added: “The coming academic year’s programme of courses for Cumbria will really help people to grow their skills. Every year, over 6,000 learners choose to learn with us. They tell us how our courses have helped them to develop new skills, explore new hobbies, gain qualifications, advance their career, find a new job, build their confidence, and support their wellbeing.”
The Cumbria Adult Learning service is hosted by Westmorland and Furness Council for the whole of Cumbria.
