Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 Taste Cumbria Comedy Night in Cockermouth.
This lively event is part of the Taste Cumbria Christmas festival which takes place in the heart of the town on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December. The Comedy Night will be held in The Maltings at Jennings Brewery from 7pm on the Saturday night with a line-up of great comics taking to the stage.
MC for the evening is Kate Smurthwaite, who John Cleese says is ‘fun, energetic and full of ideas’. This feisty feminist and star of the Edinburgh Fringe, writes for the likes of Have I Got News for You and is also touring an award-winning educational science show.
She’s joined by Jacob Nussey who brings his deadpan style, sharp jokes, and ill-fated anecdotes, punctuated with clever punchlines. He’s already established himself on the comedy circuit, performing tour support for Jason Manford, Russell Kane, and Jack Carroll.
Then there’s Eden Voss, a rising star of the UK comedy scene with his darkly optimistic view of the world. He’s won Best New Act at The Ram Comedy Festival, is a two-time Beat The Frog World Series semi finalist, and has been nominated for the Breaking Talent Award at The Birmingham Comedy Festival.
Closing the night is Eddy Brimson, who’s written a host of best-sellers on football fan culture, is a regular talking head on TV and radio on subjects as diverse as footy, dodgy builders and sexy baldness. As an actor, he’s has appeared on everything from Absolutely Fabulous and Casualty to The Bill and EastEnders.
Comedy Night tickets cost £12.50 each and are available now from the Taste Cumbria website, as are tickets for a Q&A with Carlisle author M.W.Craven and broadcaster Val Armstrong, and the fabulous fine dining feast which is the Supper Club.
The Taste Cumbria festivals themselves are free to attend and are designed to give an economic boost to Cumberland’s towns and communities. They are organised by Cumberland Council.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:
“Taste Cumbria brings more than just fabulous food and drink to our towns - it offers some great entertainment to put smiles on faces.
“All that entertainment is free at the festivals, from our Santa’s Grotto and face painting, to the great musicians and choirs taking to the stage. These ticketed events are the icing on the Taste Cumbria Christmas cake and I think this is going to be another excellent weekend.”
