Cumberland Council will be carrying out an essential bridge strengthening scheme on the C2030 at Ullock Bridge to help ensure the structure remains safe and reliable for years to come.
The works are scheduled to begin on 2 November 2026 and are expected to last for six weeks, subject to weather conditions and operational requirements.
The scheme involves strengthening the bridge through the installation of a reinforced concrete saddle, extending the lifespan of the structure and ensuring it can continue to serve the local community safely.
To allow the works to be completed safely, the scheme will require a full road closure for the duration of the project. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the works.
Due to the nature of the construction activities, access through the site will not be possible at any time during the closure period. This includes access for vehicles, emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists, including outside of working hours.
The improvements form part of the council's £27.3 million investment in maintaining and improving the local highway network, helping to ensure vital infrastructure remains safe, resilient and fit for the future.
Cumberland Council would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out.
