Christmas countdown begins for Carlisle’s Christmas Light Switch-On

Carlisle Christmas Light Switch On

With Christmas just around the corner, the festive countdown in Cumberland has officially begun - and Cumberland Council has announced one of the season’s most anticipated sparkling events for the area.

Pop sensation Una Healy, best known as a member of the multi-platinum-selling group The Saturdays, will be headlining this year’s Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch-On.

The Saturdays sold more than 5 million records worldwide and achieved 13 top ten singles and five top ten albums in the UK, including the number one single ‘What About Us’ featuring Sean Paul, as well as hits such as ‘Higher’ featuring Flo Rida, ‘All Fired Up’, ‘Ego’ and ‘Up’. Una has also had solo hits, releasing her solo album ‘The Waiting Game’ in 2017 and most recently has been presenting on tv.

The afternoon will be hosted by Britain’s Got Talent 2025 winner and magician Harry Moulding, with a packed programme of music, entertainment and performances for the whole family.

Harry Moulding is one of the most exciting entertainers of his generation. A member of the prestigious Magic Circle, Harry has spent over a decade refining his craft on some of the world’s most iconic stages across the globe.

The festivities will take place on Sunday 15 November and will run from 3pm until 5.30pm outside the Old Town Hall, with the city’s Christmas lights being switched on at 5pm.

Alongside the headline entertainment, the event will showcase talented local community groups and performers from across the area.

Taking to the stage will be Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School Choir, Blackford and Rockcliffe Primary Schools, Kirkbride Primary School, StagedRight Productions, Express Dance Studios and local violinist Gill Wadeson Violin.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:

“The Christmas Lights Switch-On is always a special occasion for Carlisle and a great way to bring people together at the start of the festive season. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Una Healy and Harry Moulding, alongside the fantastic local schools, groups and performers who will be part of the celebrations.

“It promises to be a wonderful afternoon for families and visitors, and I hope lots of people will come along and enjoy everything Cumberland has to offer this Christmas.”

The free event is organised by Cumberland Council and will offer an afternoon of family-friendly entertainment to suit all ages.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On is part of a wider programme of festive events taking place across Cumberland in the run-up to Christmas, including Christmas markets in Carlisle and Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth, alongside other seasonal activities.
