People living and working in Millom can share their views on two exciting options for the future of a key location in the heart of the town.
The engagement exercise, which launches next week, is part of the wider Connecting Millom and Haverigg project delivered by Cumberland Council under the Millom Town Deal initiative.
The community is being asked to provide feedback on two options that aim to transform Market Square into a more vibrant and welcoming space for the community to use and enjoy.
Option one proposes the creation of a new community space within the square for local events that would bring the community together, with the bus drop-off relocated just outside the area.
Option two would involve improvement works to the existing square which allows buses and other vehicles to enter and exit via separate points.
Importantly, both options would retain a similar number of car parking spaces, ensuring the square remains functional for residents and visitors alike.
To help people visualise the possible changes, images and layout plans of each proposal are available to clearly illustrate the proposals.
David Savage, Chair of Millom Town Deal Board, said:
“We invite everyone in the community to take part in this engagement process and share their perspectives. This is a special opportunity for local residents to help shape the future of Millom’s Market Square, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of our town for years to come. Your input will play a crucial role in guiding the direction of this important space at the heart of our community.”
Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, added:
“We encourage residents and businesses to have their say and join our team at the drop-in events. It is important that everyone gets their chance to get involved and take part in the engagement process.”
A drop-in event will be held at the Story Contracting Project Office, Market Square, on Tuesday 3 February from 4pm to 8pm and at the same location on Tuesday 10 February between 1pm and 5pm. At both events, the project team members will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback.
Visuals will remain on display for two weeks from Monday 2 February 2026, giving plenty of opportunity for people to view the proposals.
An online survey will be available between Tuesday 3 February and Tuesday 17 February. This will be available at https://consult.cumberland.gov.uk/
