Cumberland Council to Host Events on Renters’ Rights Reforms

Housing event

Cumberland Council is inviting landlords, letting agents, and housing professionals to attend two important events in October 2026 to learn about upcoming changes affecting the private rented sector.

The sessions will focus on proposed changes to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), including anticipated changes to how properties are assessed and rated from 2027, as well as the latest developments surrounding the Renters' Rights reforms and what landlords can expect in the next phase of implementation.

The events will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from industry experts, ask questions, and understand how future legislative and regulatory changes could affect their properties and businesses.

  • Friday 9 October 2026Allerdale House, Workington, 10:30am to 1:00pm

Representatives from a range of partner organisations and council services will be in attendance to provide advice, guidance, and support. Partner organisations in attendance at the event include Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, DWP and the NRLA.

These events are not just about regulation and compliance. They are also an opportunity for landlords and agents to learn more about the support available through Cumberland Council and partner agencies. The Council's housing teams work closely with private landlords to sustain tenancies, improve housing standards, and help residents access and remain in suitable accommodation.

Councillor Bob Kelly, Cumberland Council's Portfolio Holder for Licensing and Regulatory Services, said: "The private rented sector continues to undergo significant change, and it is important that landlords and agents stay informed about what lies ahead."

"These free events will provide valuable updates on proposed EPC changes and the ongoing implementation of Renters' Rights reforms. By attending, landlords can hear directly from experts, better understand their responsibilities, and prepare for future changes with confidence."
