Cumberland Council’s ceremonies team - as well as its stunning venue Lady Gillford's House in Carlisle – have been nominated for prestigious regional awards which highlight excellence in the wedding industry.

The team, whose ceremony officers operate at venues right across Cumberland, has been nominated in the ‘Ceremony Provider’ category at the North West Wedding Awards, with both the wider ceremonies team and the council-run Carlisle Registry Office at Lady Gillford’s House in Carlisle put forward separately. Lady Gillford's House is also in the running for the top venue in Cumbria award.

The annual awards, organised by County Brides, are voted for by brides and grooms who’ve had outstanding experiences with various providers within the wedding industry.

Couples who’ve had wedding ceremonies dating back to September 1, 2024, are eligible to vote in the awards up to the closing date of 30 April 2027.

It is the second successive year the team and venue have been nominated with them being named finalists in the 'Ceremony Provider' category last time around.

The team conducts more than a thousand ceremonies across the area each year, mainly weddings, but also carry out services such as vow renewals, civil partnerships, naming ceremonies and citizenship ceremonies.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council's Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places said: "We know our ceremonies team is highly valued by couples, so it is wonderful to hear they've been nominated again for these awards. We receive lots of glowing feedback about the team who really do go above and beyond to make sure couples' special days are just that.

"Not only is it pleasing to hear the team continues to receive high praise, but that our stunning venue – Lady Gillford's House – has also been nominated again. This building is part of Carlisle's history and is a beautiful place to get married in, so it's a credit to the team who look after the venue to see their hard work recognised.

“I’d encourage anyone who’s had a ceremony conducted by our team since September 2024 to vote in these awards.”

People can vote on the County Brides website.

The team at Lady Gillford's House is also busy preparing for their first ever wedding fayre-style event. The 'Interactive Wedding Showcase' has been designed to bring couples and suppliers together in a beautiful, inspiring setting. It is set to take place on Sunday 24 January 2027 from 11am until 3pm. Any suppliers interested in getting involved are invited to contact [email protected].
