Cumberland Council’s Ceremonies Team has been nominated as part of prestigious regional awards which highlight excellence in the wedding industry.
The team, who operate at venues right across Cumberland, has been nominated in the ‘Ceremony Provider’ category at the North West Wedding Awards, with both the wider ceremonies team and the council-run Carlisle Registry Office at Lady Gillford’s House in Carlisle put forward separately.
The annual awards, organised by County Brides, are voted for by brides and grooms who’ve had outstanding experiences with various providers within the wedding industry. Couples who’ve had wedding ceremonies dating back to September 1, 2023, are eligible to vote in the awards up to the closing date of 30 April this year.
The nominations come on the back of a successful spring and summer season for the council’s ceremonies team who received overwhelmingly positive feedback from couples. Among the feedback the team received was 100 per cent of survey respondents saying they would recommend the service to family or friends, and 100 per cent of respondents rating the service as either “very good” (95 per cent) or “good” (five per cent) when asked how satisfied they were overall.
Around 700 ceremonies were conducted throughout spring and summer last year, mainly weddings, but also other ceremonies such as civil partnerships, vow renewals, naming ceremonies and citizenship ceremonies.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places said: “It is wonderful news that our ceremonies team and our stunning venue at Lady Gilford’s in Carlisle has been nominated as part of these awards – it's rightful recognition for the dedication and talent of the ceremonies officers.
“This is the first time Cumberland Council has received a nomination in these awards and whatever the outcome, the team should be very proud of their work.
“I’d encourage anyone who’s had a ceremony conducted by our team since September 2023 to vote in these awards.”
