Cumberland Council is making good progress on repair works to Cumwhinton Ex-Railway Bridge, with the improvements helping to ensure the structure remains safe and reliable for years to come.
As work has progressed, recent damage to the bridge parapet has required some additional repairs. As a result, the scheme is now expected to be completed by 23 October 2026, rather than the previously advertised date of 9 October 2026, subject to weather and site conditions.
To keep disruption to a minimum, the road will only be closed while work is taking place between 9.00am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Outside these hours and at weekends, vehicles will be able to pass through the site using temporary traffic lights, which will remain in place until all works have been completed.
A signed diversion route will continue to be in place during the daytime road closures.
Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists who dismount will be maintained at all times. Waste collections will continue as normal.
We understand the extended works may cause inconvenience and would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these important repairs are carried out to ensure the bridge is left in a safe condition.
