Emergency Road Closure for the U4070 Corney Fell

Highways sign

Following recent deterioration of the U4070 Corney Fell Road, Cumberland Council has put in place an emergency closure on the U4070 Corney Fell Road to allow repair works to be carried out safely. The closure will be in place from 01 April 2026 for ten working days (subject to weather and site conditions).

The closure is required to enable the council to undertake emergency carriageway patching and drainage works.

During the road closure access for residents will be limited during working hours of 08.00am to 4.00pm. However please see the traffic marshals who will always be onsite during the works, who will help to get you to your property, when it is safe to do so.

Full access will be available for emergency service vehicles (Green/Blue Lights only), pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists throughout the works.

Waste and recycling collections will proceed as usual. Passengers with bus route questions are encouraged to contact Stagecoach directly.

Cumberland Council recognises that the roads in question are key routes for local residence, and some temporary inconvenience may occur during these works. The council is working closely with local stakeholders, including Parish Councils and local members, to reduce disruption as much as possible.

Cumberland Council wishes to thank the community for their continued support and patience while they improve the road network and apologise for any inconvenience.

If anyone has any questions, they can visit Cumberland Council website, or contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736
