Cumberland Council will be carrying out essential maintenance on Ennerdale Bridge this month as part of its ongoing programme to protect and maintain the area’s bridges.
From Monday 16 February to Tuesday 17 February 2026, council teams will remove saplings and vegetation on and around the bridge. These routine works are essential to prevent structural damage, maintain clear visibility, and ensure the long‑term safety and durability of the bridge.
To allow the works to be completed safely, a road closure will be in place, supported by a signed diversion route for all traffic.
Key details:
- Dates: Monday 16 – Tuesday 17 February 2026 (subject to weather and site conditions)
- Closure times: 9:00am – 3:30pm on both days
- Access:
- Emergency services, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists will always be able to pass
- On‑site traffic marshals will assist residents throughout the works
