Everyone Active takes over running of Cumberland leisure facilities

Launch of the new service at Workington Leisure Centre

Everyone Active has officially taken over the running of Cumberland Council leisure centres in the west of Cumberland.

The award-winning organisation began running seven facilities on Wednesday, April 1, working as the council’s agent for delivering leisure services.

Everyone Active now operates venues including Workington Leisure Centre, Cockermouth Leisure Centre, Whitehaven Sports Centre, Copeland Swimming Pool, Cleator Moor Sports Centre, Keswick Leisure Centre and Maryport Activity Centre.

The leisure operator will also manage a new leisure centre in Millom – a new facility under development – as part of the new 10-year contract.

Everyone Active won an impressive three awards at October’s 2025 ukactive Awards which celebrate the best of the physical activity sector – including Regional Club/Centre of the Year Awards for East Anglia & Midlands, London and South of England.

Founded in 1987, they are longest-established leisure operator in the UK and manage in excess of 250 leisure and cultural centres across the country in partnership with, or as an agent of, more than 70 local authorities.

Toni Gaskins, Regional Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said:

“We are proud to have taken over as the new operator of Cumberland’s sport and leisure venues. Our colleagues are already working hard to help people across local communities get more active, more often, no matter what their age, interests, or ability.

“We would encourage everyone to visit their local centres, meet our welcoming colleagues and make use of the fantastic facilities on offer. We are very much looking forward to embedding ourselves in local communities and getting to know everyone.

“It is a privilege to manage these centres and we are proud to work as an agent of Cumberland Council to maintain and enhance the sport and exercise offering within the area. We are really looking forward to sharing our exciting plans to improve health and well-being in Cumberland in the coming months.”

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, added: “Supporting the health and wellbeing of local residents and providing better access to opportunities to be active is at the heart of our new contract with Everyone Active.

“We want to provide the best possible leisure offer and look forward to working with them to improve our facilities for the benefit of all our residents.”
