Cumberland Council will be carrying out footbridge replacement works at Brunsow Beck Footbridge, opposite the B5300 at Allonby.
The replacement of Brunsow Beck Footbridge is necessary to maintain the safety and integrity of the route for pedestrians and cyclists.
The works will begin on Monday 21 September and are expected to take four days to complete. Working hours will be 7.30am to 4.00pm each day.
To safely accommodate users during the works, the cycleway adjacent to the carriageway will be closed and a signed diversion route will direct pedestrians through the nearby traffic light-controlled crossing area to bypass the work site and rejoin the route beyond the footbridge.
For safety reasons, the cycleway closure and signed pedestrian diversion route will remain in place throughout the duration of the works, including outside working hours.
This work forms part of Cumberland Council’s wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network. This includes fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and enhancing drainage, footways, cycleways, bridges and other key infrastructure, helping to create a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities.
