The chance to have your say on how Carlisle should develop in the future has been launched today (Wednesday 21 January).

A three-week public consultation is now underway and is asking residents and business how they think the city should grow and improve.

Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said:

“We have set out a commitment to ensure that Cumberland is an attractive, vibrant and prosperous place and that it meets the needs of existing and prospective residents, visitors and businesses.

“As part of this, we are developing an Economic and Inclusive Growth Strategy and area specific masterplans that will set out a framework to support the economic regeneration of places across Cumberland.

“It is important that our residents and businesses are given the opportunity to have their say and to let us know what is important to them and give suggestions on how we can make improvements.”

The online consultation gets underway today (Wednesday 21 January) and ends on Wednesday 11 February 2026.

The results of the consultation will help develop a Carlisle Masterplan. This will provide a plan to shape the future economic growth of the city and its continued regeneration and renewal.

To deliver this, the masterplan will identify key investment opportunities and explore options to improve connectivity across the city centre; with aim of linking up key sites and places.

The plan will also look at recreation and sport, health and wellbeing and will set out a wide programme of deliverable activities that will support the activation and attractiveness, vitality and use of the city centre.
