Cumberland Council has provided an update on the ongoing resurfacing works in Keswick.
The main carriageway resurfacing works on Main Street and Victoria Street are progressing well, with the principal surfacing works completed on Thursday 1 October. This section of the scheme has now been reopened to traffic.
Due to the forecast weather conditions, no resurfacing works will take place on the evening of Friday 2 October. The programme has been adjusted to accommodate this, helping to ensure high-quality surfacing is delivered safely and effectively.
As planned, works will move to Penrith Road on Monday 5 October. Once resurfacing on Penrith Road has been completed, crews will return to undertake the remaining section of work at Station Road and Station Street, including the access to Bell Close and Otley Road car parks.
As a result of the weather-related change to the programme, resurfacing of the car park access roads will not now be completed during the current phase of works. These works will instead be carried out following completion of the Penrith Road scheme on 16 October.
To allow these final works to be completed safely, Bell Close and Otley Road car parks will need to close again from 6.00pm on 16 October.
The overall programme remains on track, with the weather-related pause expected to be the only change to the current schedule.
Cumberland Council would like to thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience and understanding while these improvements are carried out.
