More time and more proposals: Public invited to shape North Cumberland speed limits

Cumberland Highways Worker

Cumberland Council has extended its informal consultation on proposed speed limit changes across North Cumberland until 31 October 2026, with four new proposals added following feedback received during the initial consultation period.

The North Cumberland Speed Limit Review was initially launched from Monday 17 August to Monday 7 September 2026, with 22 proposed Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs). Following consideration of comments received from local communities and stakeholders, the council has expanded the review to include 26 proposals and is providing additional time for people to review and comment on the updated plans.

The council has carefully considered the feedback received during the initial consultation period and has amended the review accordingly. Anyone who has already submitted comments does not need to respond again unless they wish to comment on the newly added proposals or provide additional information.

The extension gives residents, businesses and road users a further opportunity to help shape future speed limits across North Cumberland as part of the council's ongoing commitment to improving road safety.

The North Cumberland Speed Limit Review forms part of Cumberland Council's wider programme of work to ensure speed limits are appropriate for the roads they serve, helping to support safer journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.

All responses received during the informal consultation period will be carefully considered before any decisions are made on whether the proposals should progress to the formal Traffic Regulation Order process. Any proposals taken forward would then be subject to statutory consultation and public advertisement at a later date.

The updated proposals and supporting information are available to view on the council's Traffic Regulation Order webpage:

Anyone wishing to comment on any of the proposals can submit their views by email to [email protected].

Responses must be received by 31 October 2026 and should clearly quote the proposal number and location. Comments both in support of, and objecting to, the proposals are welcome.
