Overnight resurfacing works planned on A7 north of Longtown

Highways team member and van

Residents and road users are being advised of upcoming overnight carriageway resurfacing works on the A7 north of Longtown.

Connect Roads, on behalf of Cumberland Council, will carry out resurfacing works from Sunday 16 August 2026 for six nights, subject to weather and site conditions.

The work is essential to maintain the condition of the road network, helping to provide a safer and smoother surface for all road users.

To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, a full overnight road closure will be in place between 7pm and 6am each night. A clearly signed diversion route will be available throughout the closure period.

Personnel will be stationed at closure points and will assist residents and businesses that require access through the works area. Depending on the activity taking place at the time, there may be a short wait until it is safe to escort vehicles through the site.

Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Cumberland Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents and road users for their patience while these essential improvements are carried out.

Anyone with specific access requirements, or who would like further information about the scheme, can visit the Cumberland Council website or contact the Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736. When making an enquiry, please quote "A7 North of Longtown – Carriageway Resurfacing".
