Cumberland Council is advising residents, businesses and visitors that the slope‑repair works on the B5289 near Ashness Bridge, Keswick, are progressing well but have taken slightly longer than planned.
To ensure the repairs can be carried out safely and to a high standard, temporary traffic lights will remain in place until the end of the day on Friday 13 March.
These works form part of Phase 2 of the essential slope repair programme, designed to stabilise and strengthen the embankment supporting this important route around Derwent Water. The slope was originally damaged during Storm Desmond, and long-term repairs are vital to keep the road safe, resilient and accessible for years to come.
Phase 2 began on Monday 23 February and was initially expected to take around ten days to complete. The programme was adapted in response to feedback from residents and businesses, moving from previously planned night-time road closures to temporary traffic lights, enabling the B5289 to remain open and reducing disruption.
Cumberland Council thanks residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation. Traffic management will remain in place a little longer, and the council emphasises that teams are making good progress on site, focusing on completing the final stages safely and efficiently.
