Residents in Carlisle are being advised of upcoming road improvement works on Brunton Avenue as Cumberland Council continues its programme of highway maintenance across the area.
Carriageway resurfacing works will take place on Brunton Avenue, between numbers 1 and 45, from Monday 7 September and are expected to take up to five days to complete, subject to weather and site conditions. Work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm each day.
The scheme will help maintain the condition of the road and provide a smoother surface for residents and road users.
This work forms part of Cumberland Council’s wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network. This includes fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and enhancing drainage, footways, cycleways, bridges and other key infrastructure, helping to create a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities.
To allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, a temporary road closure will be in place while resurfacing is underway. A signed diversion route will be available for motorists.
During working hours, vehicle access to and from properties within the closure area will not be possible while surfacing works are taking place. Residents who need access during the day are encouraged to speak with the site team, who will do their best to assist where it is safe and practical to do so. Some delays may be unavoidable depending on the stage of the works.
On-street parking within the closure area will not be available during working hours. Access for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the project.
Waste and recycling collections will not be affected.
Cumberland Council understands that roadworks can cause temporary inconvenience and will make every effort to minimise disruption while these important improvements are completed.
