Cumberland Council, in partnership with Connect Roads, is set to deliver a carriageway resurfacing programme on the A6071 between Longtown and Brampton.
The essential highway maintenance works will begin on Sunday 2 August and are expected to last for up to 14 days, subject to weather and site conditions. The scheme will see sections of the route resurfaced to extend the life of the carriageway and reduce the need for future repairs.
The work will be carried out by Connect Roads on behalf of Cumberland Council and will require a series of daytime road closures between 8am and 8pm. To minimise disruption, the scheme has been divided into sections, allowing work to progress efficiently along the route. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the project.
Residents and businesses within the closure sections will continue to be able to access their properties. Staff will be stationed at closure points and will escort vehicles safely through the works when conditions allow. Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
The programme of works is scheduled as follows:
- 2–6 August: Bush-on-Lyne to Fir Ends
- 7–8 August: Fir Ends to Smithfield Crossroads
- 9–10 August: Smithfield Crossroads to Halfway House
- 11–12 August: Pump Cottage to Newtown
- 13 August: Cambeck Bridge to Crooked Holme
- 14 August: Irthing Bridge to Brampton
- 15 August: Brisco Hill to Longtown
All works will be undertaken between 8am and 8pm.
