Cumberland Council has confirmed that planned carriageway resurfacing works on Main Street, Victoria Street and Penrith Road in Keswick will get underway on Monday 21 September.
The scheme, which will help improve the condition of the road for all users, will be delivered in two phases, with overnight road closures in place to allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently.
The first phase of works on Main Street and Victoria Street will take place between the weekdays of Monday 21 September and Friday 2 October, followed by works on Penrith Road between Monday 5 October and Friday 16 October, also during weekdays. Work in both phases will take place between 6.00pm and 1.00am.
To facilitate the works, Bell Close and Otley Road car parks will be closed each evening between 6.00pm and 1.00am from Monday 21 September to Friday 25 September.
The car parks will remain open on the evenings of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.
Evening closures will then resume from Monday 28 September and continue until Saturday 3 October, again between 6.00pm and 1.00am.
During the closure periods, customers will still be able to leave the car parks if required through a traffic marshal and escort vehicle system.
Following the end of the car park closures on 3 October, a reduced number of spaces will remain available at Otley Road car park until Friday 16 October. This is because the contractor will use part of the site to store plant and equipment required for the resurfacing project.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and maintain access where it is safe and practical to do so. Access for emergency services, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout the works.
