Road closure planned for carriageway works between Boltonfellend and Heathersgill, Carlisle

Two highways team members discussing their next job

Cumberland Council will be carrying out essential carriageway works on the C1012 between Heathersgill and Boltonfellend, near Carlisle.

The works will begin on Monday 1 June 2026 and are expected to last for 10 working days, subject to weather conditions and site requirements.

To ensure the safety of both the workforce and the travelling public, the works will be delivered under an official road closure, with a signed diversion route in place throughout the duration of the scheme. The road will be closed from Rigghead Cottage, Heathersgill to Boltonfellend.

Working hours will be between 8am and 4pm each day.

During the works:

  • Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles
  • Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will still be able to pass through the area
  • Waste collections and school transport services will continue as normal.

Cumberland Council recognises that the closure may cause some temporary disruption and thanks residents for their patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
