Cumberland Council is set to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on the U4106 Hinnings Road, Distington, helping to improve the condition of the highway and provide safer, smoother journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.
The works form part of Cumberland Council's wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network.
The scheme is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 1 September 2026 and is expected to take up to 14 days to complete, subject to weather and site conditions. The works will be delivered by Cumberland Council's contractor, DSD Construction Limited.
These essential maintenance works will need to be carried out under an official road closure to ensure the safety of our workforce and the general public. A signed diversion route will be in operation during these works.
Access for residents will be limited during working hours of 8.00am to 6.00pm. However, traffic marshals will be on site throughout the works and will endeavour to facilitate access to properties where it is safe to do so.
The resurfacing works will help improve the condition of the carriageway, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for future maintenance.
During the works:
- Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the scheme.
- Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will continue to have access through the site.
- Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal.
The investment is helping to improve roads, tackle potholes and enhance key infrastructure across Cumberland, including drainage, footways, cycleways and bridges, creating a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities.
