Cumberland Council would like to update on road improvements on Lorton Street, Cockermouth, this is an ambitious project to enhance the local road network and ensure safer, smoother travel for residents and businesses.
The improvements are being delivered by the council's contractor, DSD Construction Limited.
Due to engineering difficulties with the construction of the new road surface at the B5292 Lorton Street, Cockermouth, the scheme will be extended until the middle of April under a formal road closure. During this time the three-way temporary traffic lights at Kirkgate and Market Place junction will remain in place to help to ease any congestion.
There will remain no access for any vehicles, including emergency services.
However, please see the traffic marshals who will always be onsite during the works, who will assist in any way they can, when it is safe to do so.
A further update on these road improvements will follow at the start of April with more detailed information on the completion of the scheme.
Cumberland Council recognises that this road in question is a key route through the town, and some temporary inconvenience is occurring during these works. The council is working closely with local stakeholders, including Parish Councils and local members, to reduce disruption as much as possible.
Cumberland Council wishes to thank the community for their continued support and patience while they improve the road network and apologise for any inconvenience.
If there are any questions regarding the road improvements, please visit Cumberland Council website, or contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736.
