Road improvements planned for the B5289 Low Lorton

Highways team member and van

Cumberland Council will be carrying out road improvement works on the B5289 at Low Lorton.

The works will begin on Monday 11 May 2026 and are expected to take approximately four days, subject to weather conditions and site requirements.

The planned improvements include carriageway repairs, drainage improvements and reinstating the road markings.

To ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently, they will be delivered under a road closure between 7.30am to 6.00pm.

During the works:

  • Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles.
  • Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will still be able to pass through the area.
  • Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal.
  • Any temporary changes to bus stops will be clearly displayed at affected locations, and passengers are advised to contact Stagecoach directly for further route information.

Cumberland Council recognises that the B5289 at Low Lorton is an important route, and some temporary disruption may occur while the work is carried out. The council is working closely with local stakeholders, including parish councils and local members, to minimise any inconvenience.

Cumberland Council thanks the community for their continued patience and support while these essential improvements are completed.
