Cumberland Council is set to carry out carriageway resurfacing works on the C2016 West End/Camerton Road in Great Broughton, helping to improve the condition of the highway and provide safer, smoother journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.

The works form part of Cumberland Council's wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network.

The scheme is scheduled to begin on Monday 27 July 2026 and is expected to take up to sevendays to complete, subject to weather and site conditions.

To allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, a road closure will be in place throughout the scheme Access for residents will be limited during working hours of 7.30am to 6.00pm. However, traffic marshals will be on site throughout the works and will endeavour to facilitate access to properties where it is safe to do so.

The resurfacing works will improve the condition of the carriageway, helping to provide safer and smoother journeys for residents, businesses and visitors using the route.

During the works:

  • Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists will continue to have access through the site and will be escorted safely by traffic marshals where required.
  • Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal.

Cumberland Council would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these essential works are carried out and apologises for any temporary inconvenience caused.
