Take Centre Stage at Carlisle's Christmas Lights Switch On 2026

Christmas Lights

Local schools, community groups and performers are being invited to play a starring role in this year's Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch On.

Cumberland Council is offering local talent the chance to perform at the popular festive event, which will take place outside Carlisle's Old Town Hall on Sunday 15 November.

The community celebration will feature a mix of local performers and celebrity acts, creating a festive afternoon of entertainment before the city's Christmas lights are officially illuminated.

Applications are now open for school choirs, community dance groups, singing groups, community choirs and individual performers from across Cumberland, who would like the opportunity to take to the stage.

Selected performers will be given a dedicated slot of up to 10 minutes between 3pm and approximately 4.50pm, ahead of the official lights switch on at 5pm and a headline performance later in the evening.

Those interested in taking part are encouraged to contact Cumberland Council's events team before Friday 18 September. Applications should be sent to [email protected]. Places are limited and successful applicants will be notified the following week.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council's Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said:

"The Carlisle Christmas Lights Switch On is always a fantastic community event and we're excited to once again showcase the talent we have across Cumberland.

“We know there are so many brilliant performers, choirs and groups in our area, and this is a brilliant opportunity for them to be part of one of the city's most popular festive celebrations. We would encourage anyone interested to apply and help us make this year's event even more special."
