Residents and visitors have another chance to get up close to the Tour de France Grand Départ Trophy when it visits the Cockermouth stage of the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women.
The trophy will be on display in the event fan zone near the start and finish line in Cockermouth town centre on Wednesday 19 August, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about the world's most famous cycling race ahead of the Tour de France Grand Départ coming to Cumberland in July 2027.
It will be the second time the trophy has visited the Cumberland area after being on show in Maryport as part of the Taste Cumbria event on Sunday 9 August.
The visit comes as excitement continues to build for the landmark event, with a Stage One finish in Carlisle and a Stage Two start in Keswick confirmed for the 2027 Tour de France. The race will begin in Edinburgh before finishing its opening stage in Carlisle on Friday 2 July, with riders departing from Keswick the following day and travelling through the Lake District and Lancashire on their way to Liverpool.
The trophy's appearance also coincides with Cumberland hosting the opening stage of the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women. Making its debut as a host of the women's race, Cockermouth will welcome some of the world's best cyclists for the longest stage of the event, a demanding 158.9km route featuring 1,913 metres of ascent.
Starting and finishing in the town, the Tour of Britain Women’s route will pass through Frizington, Whitehaven, Lowca, Workington, Flimby, Maryport, Allonby, Silloth, Wigton, Caldbeck and Aspatria before returning to Cockermouth town centre.

The countdown to the Tour de France Grand Départ is already underway, with organisers currently recruiting thousands of volunteers to help bring one of the world's biggest sporting events to life.
Applications are open for JOY Maker volunteers, with opportunities available across all six stages of the event. Anyone interested in getting involved has until Tuesday 1 September 2026 to register their interest.
