Residents, businesses and road users are being advised that urgent carriageway resurfacing works will take place on the A594 at Dovenby from Monday 12 October.
The essential maintenance works, which will be carried out by Connect Roads on behalf of Cumberland Council, are expected to take three days to complete, subject to weather and site conditions.
To allow the resurfacing to be carried out safely and efficiently, the road will be closed in phases, with signed diversion routes in place throughout the works. While construction activity will take place between 8am and 6pm each day, the road closure will remain in place 24 hours a day during each phase.
Phase 1
From 6am on Monday 12 October until 6am on Wednesday 14 October, the A594 will be closed between the M-Sport junction and Dearham Tollbar Junction.
Access to M-Sport and Dovenby village will be available via the A595 and Cockermouth Roundabout (Belle Vue).
Phase 2
From 6am on Wednesday 14 October until 8pm on Thursday 15 October, the A594 will be closed between Cockermouth Roundabout (Belle Vue) and the M-Sport junction.
Access to M-Sport and Dovenby village will be available via the A596 from Maryport.
Traffic management personnel will be stationed at closure points during working hours and will assist residents and businesses requiring access through the works where it is safe to do so.
Due to the nature of the resurfacing works, there may be short periods when access is temporarily restricted. However, access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained throughout the works.
These improvements will provide a smoother and more reliable road surface for motorists and help maintain this important route for local communities, businesses and visitors.
