A new Supported Housing Strategy has been agreed by Cumberland Council, setting out plans to improve housing and support for residents across Cumberland, with the voices and experiences of local people at its heart.
Over the past year, residents have shared what home truly means to them, including people with disabilities, care-experienced young people and those who have experienced homelessness.
For many, the message was clear: everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home. People who have faced homelessness spoke about the importance of having somewhere warm, affordable and secure, without the uncertainty of being moved on or having to start over again.
The new strategy focuses on preventing homelessness, reducing the need for repeated moves and helping people settle into long-term homes with the right support to live independently and thrive.
By listening to people’s lived experiences, the strategy aims to deliver meaningful change, helping more residents find a place where they feel safe, settled and able to build a positive future.
