HLTA General purpose and job role;
- Take responsibility for classroom assistance working with class teachers in order to promote effective teaching and learning for pupils.
- To be able to work independently and as part of a team; providing Preparation, Planning and Assessment (PPA) cover throughout the school.
- Support and supervise pupils throughout the school day whilst promoting pupils’ independence, self-esteem and social inclusion
- Give support to pupils, individually or in groups so that they can all access the curriculum, take part in learning and experience a sense of achievement
Main Duties and Key Accountabilities.
- Support the Class Teacher in delivering whole class, group and individual teaching
- To support individuals and groups to help them learn.
- Provide written and verbal feedback
- Motivate and progress pupils’ learning following school policies and guidance from Teachers
- Organise and safely manage an appropriate learning environment and resources
- Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils; including those with specific needs, both in the classroom as part of first quality teaching and through intervention work.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policy and procedures to contribute to a purposeful learning environment and encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others.
- To establish an effective and purposeful learning environment in partnership with the teachers and other colleagues.
- To support teachers in assessing the needs of individual children.
- To observe, record and feedback information on pupil performance.
- Assist with break time / lunchtime supervision including facilitating games and activities
- Supporting educational visits and extracurricular activities
- To take safeguarding seriously and be observant and follow the schools safeguarding policy
- Take responsibility for own training and development, attending training courses both necessary and as appropriate.
- To communicate and liaise with staff, pupils, parents, governors and other members of the local community as appropriate
Other Key Aspects of the role may include;
- Record basic pupil data
- Support children’s earning through play
- Support pupils with computing
- Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene as required, whilst encouraging independence
Experience and Qualification requirements;
- GCSE at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including Maths and English
- Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent; ie – NVQ learning support, Working with children
- Experience of working in an educational setting
- Experience of planning and leading teaching and learning activities (under supervision)
- Other relevant training; First Aid, Safeguarding,
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults and work as art of a team
