Literacy Specialists – Key Stage 3 Literacy Specialist

Orgill English Hub is seeking to appoint talented and committed teachers or leaders with significant experience in improving reading outcomes in Key Stage 3.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have successfully supported pupils who did not meet the expected standard in reading at the end of Key Stage 2 and who have led strategies to strengthen reading fluency, disciplinary literacy and reading for pleasure within a secondary context.

Key Stage 3 Literacy Specialists are seconded one or two days per week from their home school, with the full support of their headteacher, to work alongside partner schools supported by the English Hub. They are integral to the Hub’s expanded offer and work closely with senior leaders, subject leaders and classroom teachers to embed a coherent, whole-school approach to reading.

The role includes:
· Supporting reading catch-up and intervention for struggling readers
· Developing fluency and comprehension strategies across subjects
· Strengthening disciplinary literacy and curriculum reading
· Coaching staff and building leadership capacity
· Supporting strategic planning, evaluation and sustainable improvement

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence reading culture and provision across secondary schools, ensuring that all pupils — particularly the most vulnerable — develop the confidence and competence to thrive as readers.
