General Synopsis
Today, a low-pressure system near the Faroe Islands moving northeast will bring light, occasionally moderate rain. Overnight and into early Saturday morning, a temporary ridge of high pressure will lead to drier conditions. Meanwhile, a Storm named Dave is developing over the Atlantic and will track northeast, reaching Ireland by midday Saturday and moving over Scotland by the evening. From Saturday afternoon onward, light to locally moderate rain is expected again. Road surface temperatures will remain above freezing in most areas; however, parts of the Lake District and the Pennines may drop below 0°C, creating a risk of hoar frost and icy overnight and early Saturday. Winds will be westerly at 17–22 mph, strengthening during Saturday with gusts of 40–50 mph, and locally peaking near 60 mph overnight into Sunday. A yellow wind warning will be in effect from 17:00 Saturday until 07:00 Sunday. Visibility will remain good, but in places it drops to moderate in rain, as well as in low cloud and hill fog over higher ground.
