The Role of Short-Term Interventions

A primary role of this team is to work across the system to enhance prevention interventions and work to prevent or delay admission into formal support services. This service will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders from across the health and social care system and third sector and voluntary groups in Cumbria to ensure short term interventions (including assessment) are undertaken to ensure people are safe and supported using a strengths-based approach. The team will support the admission avoidance and the discharge or people from acute and community hospitals in a safe and timely way reducing the risk of delayed transfers of care.

We recognise that our workforce are best placed to design and embed new ways of working to achieve a modern social care service able to deliver the best outcomes for the people of Cumbria within a financially sustainable envelope. We have invested in additional Social Work posts including the creation of a dedicated Safeguarding Team and are looking to recruit to Social Worker posts:

-To work in a team to undertake strengths-based assessments and deliver appropriate person centred support and outcomes for people in Cumbria with care and support needs.

-To work in ways that promote independence recognise potential for change and through excellent practice enable people to maximise their strength

You will be part of a team of 16 AMHP’s providing a 24/7 service on a fixed 12-hour shift pattern; your working week is therefore effectively complete in three shifts. 

 

The successful candidate will be joining a dedicated group of staff who have a good work ethic and shared values in social work.  We expect high professional standards throughout the work undertaken and the team is well supported, which is important when working within this challenging environment.  

 

Who we are looking for 

We are looking for someone with the Approved Mental Health Professional Qualification (Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist), who is adaptable to a variety of work including Emergency Duty and Out of Hours for Cumbria Adult Social Care. You will have extensive knowledge of the care and management process and a strong commitment to partnership working. Applicants should also be familiar with the Mental Capacity Act 2005

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiatic and commited social work practitioner, to join the Safeguarding Adults Team in Cumberland covering Allerdale and Copeland and supporting the rest of the Cumberland North as required.

The team undertakes the S42 enquiry work, leading on safeguarding case conferences and the coordination of risk assessments in collaboration with the adult and key partners. An integral function of the role is to develop strong partnerships by working together, whilst providing advice and guidance to both internal and external partners.

The Safeguarding Social Work post is a pivitol role within a supportive and dynamic team, providing a statutory operational function to all safeguarding operations: carrying a caseload of safeguarding enquiries and leading on these enquries, to ensure people are safe from harm, abuse and neglect. As well as being a point of contact for advice to the wider teams,  the role will develop, shape and promote positive partner relationships with all external partners including; police, health and the third sector.

Candidates should demonstrate a passion for making safeguarding personal from a strengths based approach. They should have transferable skills and ideally, experience of working within the; Care Act and Mental Capacity Act, have an understanding of the principles of safeguarding, the CSAB safeguarding adults threshold tool, the policies and procedures of safeguarding and their application to practice: to keep people safe, support adult’s to achieve their identified outcomes and to live free from abuse and neglect.

Working within our Residential Care Service will typically involve working shifts which usually cover between 7am until 10pm (days) or 9.30pm – 7.30am (nights), over 7 days, 365 day a year – this will include alternate weekends (as part of a set rota) and Bank Holidays.
