St Bridget’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery is a welcoming and nurturing Catholic school where children are at the heart of everything we do. Rooted in our Catholic ethos and values, we are committed to providing a high-quality education in a caring and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.

We are seeking to appoint a positive, enthusiastic and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s learning and development across the primary phase and who is committed to helping every child achieve their full potential. It is for a year initially, budget dependent

The Role
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:
•    Support pupils across the school both in class and through targeted interventions
•    Deliver high-quality learning experiences for groups and whole classes
•    Confidently lead classes during teacher absence and PPA cover
•    Work closely with teachers and leaders to support pupil progress and wellbeing
•    Support pupils with additional needs, including pupils with SEND
•    Promote positive behaviour and high expectations for all pupils
•    Build strong relationships with children, staff, parents and the wider school community
•    Use ICT effectively to support teaching and learning
•    Contribute positively to the wider life and Catholic ethos of the school

We are looking for someone who:
•    Holds a relevant Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)
•    Holds the HLTA qualification or equivalent experience
•    Has experience of working across the primary age range
•    Has a good understanding of the Primary Curriculum
•    Has strong literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
•    Can demonstrate positive and consistent behaviour management
•    Is organised, flexible and proactive
•    Builds positive relationships with children and adults
•    Works effectively as part of a team
•    Has high expectations for all pupils
•    Will support and uphold the Catholic ethos of the school

In return, we can offer:
•    Happy, friendly and enthusiastic children who enjoy learning
•    A caring and supportive staff team
•    A welcoming school community with strong Catholic values
•    Opportunities for continued professional development
•    A varied and rewarding role where you can make a real difference
•    Supportive leadership committed to staff wellbeing and development

Diversity is at our core: As a school, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

Whilst we are a Catholic school, you do not need to be Catholic or have a religious denomination to teach in our school. You do however need to support the Catholic ethos of our school and will be highly supported in working within a Catholic school.

Application forms, job description/personal specification and letter to applicants are available by requesting the information via the phone number/email address below.

Visits to our school can also be arranged and we would love to meet you.

Please contact our school office on 01946 820 320 or [email protected] to arrange a visit or to request an application pack.

You can also access information about the role on our website on: https://st-bridgets-pri.cumbria.sch.uk/key-information/job-vacancy

Completed application forms should be returned via email only to our School Business Manager,

All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to hold or undergo a suitable enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure. However, amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020)) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be considered. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

Short-listed candidates will be asked to complete a criminal record self-disclosure form to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered or protected, to be returned to the school prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this criminal record self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.

In addition to the above, the school reserves the right to carry out an online search on short-listed candidates. This will only include a search for information which is publicly available online.
•    Please note it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
