Post Details: 
We are seeking to appoint a permanent Higher Level Teaching Assistant to provide additional support in our school.  

Responsible To 
Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Class Teachers 

Purpose of the Role 
To support the learning, progress and welfare of pupils across Pennine Way Primary School by working in partnership with teachers and other staff. The HLTA will contribute to planning, deliver learning activities, assess pupil progress and undertake whole class supervision when required, under the direction of a qualified teacher and in accordance with school policies and procedures. 

 The postholder will promote high standards of achievement, positive behaviour, inclusion and safeguarding, contributing to the school's vision of ensuring every child achieves their full potential. 

Key Responsibilities 
Teaching and Learning 
•    Deliver high-quality learning activities to individuals, groups and whole classes. 
•    Undertake whole-class teaching and supervision in the absence of the teacher, where directed. 
•    Support the planning, preparation and evaluation of learning activities. 
•    Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of all learners, including pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and those with English as an Additional Language. 
•    Use effective strategies to engage, motivate and challenge pupils. 
•    Promote excellent presentation, pride in work and high expectations across the curriculum. 
•    Contribute to the assessment of pupils' progress through observation, marking, feedback and record keeping. 
•    Support children to become confident, independent and resilient learners. 
•    Deliver intervention programmes to targeted groups of pupils to accelerate progress. 

Inclusion and SEND 
•    Support the inclusion of all pupils within lessons and wider school life. 
•    Assist in the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), support plans and provision maps. 
•    Liaise with teachers, the SENDCo and external agencies where appropriate. 
•    Promote equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the school community. 
•    Encourage pupils' social, emotional and mental wellbeing 

Behaviour and Pastoral Support 
•    Establish positive relationships with pupils based on trust, respect and high expectations. 
•    Promote and uphold the school's behaviour policy. 
•    Support pupils in developing positive attitudes towards learning. 
•    Assist with resolving conflicts and encouraging restorative approaches. 
•    Provide pastoral support and contribute to pupils' wellbeing and safeguarding. 

Assessment and Monitoring 
•    Monitor and record pupils' progress and attainment. 
•    Provide timely feedback to teachers regarding pupil achievement and barriers to learning. 
•    Support the use of formative assessment to improve outcomes. 
•    Contribute to the evaluation of interventions and support programmes. 
•    Maintain accurate records in line with school procedures. 

Curriculum Support 
•    Support curriculum delivery across all primary phases as required. 
•    Prepare and organise resources that enhance learning. 
•    Use ICT and educational technology effectively to support learning. 
•    Contribute to the enrichment of the curriculum through clubs, visits and special events. 
•    Support school improvement priorities where appropriate 

Working with Staff, Parents and the Community 
•    Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and school leaders. 
•    Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and carers. 
•    Attend meetings, training and professional development opportunities as required. 
•    Contribute positively to the wider life of the school. 
•    Support the school's ethos, values and vision. 

Person Specification 
Essential 
Qualifications 
•    HLTA Status or willingness and ability to achieve HLTA Status. 
•    GCSE Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. 
•    Relevant Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.  
Experience 
•    Experience of working within a primary school setting. 
•    Experience supporting children across a range of abilities and needs. 
•    Experience delivering interventions and supporting pupil progress. 
•    Experience of working collaboratively within a team. 

Knowledge 
•    Understanding of the primary curriculum. 
•    Knowledge of safeguarding procedures. 
•    Knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice. 
•    Understanding of effective behaviour management strategies. 
•    Competent use of ICT in supporting learning. 

 Skills and Attributes 
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
•    Ability to motivate and inspire children. 
•    Ability to work independently and use initiative. 
•    Strong organisational skills. 
•    Flexibility and adaptability. 
•    Commitment to continual professional development. 

Desirable 
•    Previous experience as a HLTA. 
•    Experience of delivering whole-class lessons. 
•    Experience of supporting pupils with SEND. 
•    Paediatric or Emergency First Aid qualification. 
•    Experience of leading interventions that accelerate pupil progress. 
•    Relevant Level 4 qualification or higher.
