Group 1

L6-L12    £60,619 to £70,275

NOR 43 (Age Range 3 to 11 years)

The Governing Body of Hallbankgate Village School are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Acting Head Teacher, for the period 1st January 2027 until 31st December 2027, whilst our Headteacher takes Maternity Leave.  We believe we can offer an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Headteacher to lead a nurturing and ambitious village school at the heart of its community, where every child is valued, inspired to discover their strengths, believe what they can achieve and THRIVE.

Some teaching hours will be required, to be agreed with the successful candidate, to provide cover across the school where necessary, and to deliver small intervention groups.  Recent KS2 teaching experience would be desirable.

We are looking to appoint someone who is:
•    Passionate about every child’s success, committed to ensuring that all children feel happy, valued, confident and inspired, and have the skills, knowledge and character they need to flourish.
•    A leader with a strong knowledge of the EYFS through to Year 6, and a clear understanding of how children learn, develop confidence and are supported to become independent, resilient and effective learners.
•    Forward-thinking and committed to continuous improvement, with high expectations for teaching, learning, behaviour and outcomes, while recognising and celebrating the individual strengths and achievements of every child.
•    A strong and relational leader who values our identity as a small village school at the heart of its community, and who can build positive, trusting relationships with staff, children, governors, parents and the wider community.
•    Experienced in school self-evaluation and improvement, with a clear understanding of the Ofsted framework and, ideally, recent experience of an Ofsted inspection, or Ofsted training.
•    Ideally experienced in a Designated Safeguarding Lead and SENDCo role, although this could be covered by existing staff if necessary.

In return, we can offer:
•    A warm, welcoming and supportive school community where children and adults feel valued, respected and proud to belong.
•    A child-centred, creative and inspiring learning environment, where every child is encouraged to discover their strengths, embrace challenges and develop a love of learning.
•    A highly motivated, reflective and supportive team of teaching and support staff, committed to providing rich learning experiences and to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to flourish.
•    Strong and positive partnerships with pupils, families, and our local and wider community, reflecting our role as a village school at the heart of its community.
•    A supportive and proactive Governing Body, committed to the continued success of the school and to ensuring that every child is understood, valued and supported as an individual.
•    A school with a strong sense of identity and belonging, where we celebrate individuality, nurture character and equip our children with the skills, knowledge and confidence to flourish in an ever-changing world.

Expressions of Interest should be sent to the Governing Body via The Clerk [email protected] no later than 9am on Monday 19th October 2026.  Please outline your experience and suitability for the role, with reference to the criteria outlined above.  There is no requirement to submit an application form.   This post is offered on a secondment basis.  You must seek agreement from your current Headteacher and Governing Body, please confirm you have this agreement in your Expression of Interest.

Any potential candidates are warmly encouraged to visit school throughout w/c 12th October, please contact [email protected] to arrange a suitable time.

Hallbankgate Village School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and well-being of its pupils, engages with young people and staff in policy and practice developments, proactively encourages feedback and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and pre-employment ID and medical checks.
