Short stay disc parking

The disc parking scheme allows time-restricted free parking close to shops and local facilities by displaying a parking (clock) disc where your vehicle is parked.

How long you can park

The parking times vary so you need to make sure that you set the disc at the correct time and return on or before the expiry time to avoid receiving a parking fine.

You must leave the parking bay after your time has expired. You cannot return to the same parking bay for at least the time shown on the sign near the bay, hence the term 'No return within 'X' hour(s)'.

For example, in a ‘1 hour - no return within ‘1’ Hour disc zone bay, if a vehicle was parked and the clock disc was set an arrival time of 10am, the vehicle must leave the bay by 11am. The vehicle is not allowed to re-park in the same bay until after 12pm.

To avoid any doubt, you should only display one clock disc so that it is easily visible to the Civil Enforcement Officers who will check the time of arrival.

What you’re not allowed to do with a disc clock

You cannot:

  • change the time on the clock disc
  • move your vehicle along the same set of parking bays
  • go over the expiry time

You will be issued a Penalty Charge Notice if you break any of these regulations.

If you misinterpret the signs or street regulations, you may need to consider parking somewhere else or seek advice.
