Electric vehicle charging speeds and costs

Our electric vehicle (EV) charging network includes a mix of standard, fast and rapid chargers to meet a range of user needs and support the effective use of public EV infrastructure.

Charger speeds

Having a mix of charger types across Cumberland ensures that drivers have access to the right type of charger depending on their needs. Whether it's an overnight charge at home or a quick top-up during the day.

Standard and fast chargers

Standard and fast chargers are ideal for:

  • residential or overnight charging
  • vehicles that remain parked for longer periods
  • typical charging between 6 to 12 hours

Rapid chargers

Rapid chargers:

  • offer quicker charging times
  • are better suited for shorter stay locations such as town centres, car parks and motorway services
  • are more expensive to use

This balanced approach helps distribute demand across the network and manage grid capacity more effectively.

Visit the Energy Saving Trust website for more information about charging EVs and rate of charge.

Charging costs

To help reduce costs for EV users, our public chargers will offer off-peak tariffs:

  • lower rates available during times of lower energy demand
  • typically overnight or during specific hours, making charging cheaper
