Electric vehicles

Using an electric vehicle in Cumberland, including a map of where to charge your vehicle, grant funding, how to charge your vehicle at home and at your workplace.

Local Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund

We are committed to removing barriers to electric vehicle (EV) adoption, creating an equitable and inclusive charging infrastructure so that charging an electric vehicle can be done locally and cost effectively.

To achieve this goal, we are installing public chargepoints in:

  • on-street locations
  • council car parks
  • our community assets such as libraries (where appropriate)

Our charging infrastructure will follow the Electric Vehicles Accessibility guidance where appropriate.

We are delivering these chargepoints through the Local Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund and concessionaire contributions. The project is funded by the Department for Transport.

Find and suggest EV charging locations

We would like you to review the proposed chargepoint locations and vote on which ones you prefer.

Please note, the sites are not exact locations. They are a starting point based on LEVI criteria. Precise locations will be determined with local residents and the appointed charge point operator.

Map of proposed sites

Locations shown on the map have been selected based on key LEVI criteria:

  • high residential areas where many households do not have off street parking
  • chargepoints placed in locations that cover as many households as possible within a 5 minute walk

These locations will help ensure convenient access for residents and maximise community benefit.

Site suggestion

As part of our work to expand Cumberland's EV charging infrastructure, we would appreciate residents putting forward new chargepoint locations.

Request a community EV chargepoint

Your local knowledge is crucial to help us identify suitable locations that may not be included on our proposed site list. This will make sure we fill the gaps in our network.

When choosing new chargepoint locations, we consider:

  • the demand for chargepoints in the area
  • electricity availability
  • parking rules
  • parking areas that are publicly accessible to all and ideally open 24 hours a day
  • footway space
  • preserving history and heritage
