Fireworks can be enjoyable when used responsibly. However, their misuse can cause fear, distress and disruption within local communities.
Using fireworks in a dangerous or irresponsible way may be considered antisocial behaviour.
Examples of antisocial use of fireworks
Examples include:
- setting off fireworks late at night without consideration for neighbours
- throwing fireworks in streets, parks or other public places
- using fireworks to intimidate, threaten, alarm or harass people
- deliberately targeting people, animals, vehicles or property with fireworks
- repeatedly using fireworks in a way that causes fear, distress, or disruption
Report dangerous or antisocial use of fireworks
Anyone witnessing dangerous or antisocial use of fireworks should report it to Cumbria Police.
If there is an immediate risk to people or property, call 999.
For non-emergency incidents, contact the police on 101.
Fireworks in street and public places
It is an offence to throw or set off fireworks in a street or public highway.
The police can investigate reports of dangerous or illegal use of fireworks and may take enforcement action where appropriate.
