Afghan Resettlement programme (ARP)

Overview of the ARP, who it supports and how families are welcomed into Cumberland.

Early Help Assessment

Case Officers complete an Early Help Assessment with each family to support their integration and resettlement into Cumberland. The assessment is tailored to the family and makes sure each person's views and needs are understood.

The assessment includes:

How long Early Help remains open

Early Help Assessments usually remain open 6 to 12 months. They may remain open longer depending on:

  • the ARP pathway the families arrive through
  • the family's level of English
  • familiarity with the UK (some families have worked alongside the UK government and may settle more quickly)

Support after Early Help closes

When the Early Help Assessment is completed and closed, families are supported through:

  • community drop-ins
  • English cafes
  • third-sector partners and local community organisations

As families remain part of the ARP scheme for up to 3 years, we will continue to maintain contact. Further support can be provide if needed, including re-opening an Early Help Assessment.
