Open data: Allerdale

Open data information for the former Allerdale District Council.

The aim of open data in the public sector is to increase transparency across Government and allow anyone, whether businesses, individuals, charities and community groups to re-use public sector information.

The Government is leading the way by publishing a large amount of data from many public sector bodies and also showcasing applications that have been created using the information available.

Credit balances

The council no longer provides specific data on credit balances based on ICO decision notice FS50619844 (i.e. we are withholding the information under section 31(1)(a) of FoIA - Law Enforcement).

In line with the aforementioned decision we consider that releasing the requested information into the public domain would allow potential fraudsters to use the data to identify business entities which were entitled to claim credits on their accounts.

Once such a business had been identified, there would be a number of avenues open to the fraudsters to seek to obtain funds.

We are satisfied that the prejudice being claimed is not trivial or insignificant and that there is the relevant causal link.

Whilst we wish to be as transparent as possible we must balance the legitimate interests in the public having access to the information, against the potential consequences of disclosure.

As the total credit balance (as of 29 June 2023) was £272,382.71 we do not consider there to be a strong public interest in the disclosure of the information.
