Reporting an accident at work
Under The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR), certain incidents must be reported to the enforcing authority.
You must report:
- deaths (of employees or members of the public)
- major injuries (such as fractures and amputations)
- members of the public taken to hospital from your premises
- injuries that stop an employee doing their normal work for more than 7 days
- serious diseases caused by work, such as occupational asthma
- dangerous occurrences (such as electrical faults causing fire or explosion)

How to report an accident
Report all incidents through the Health and Safety Executive website.
Fatalities and major incidents can be reported by phone.

You must report immediately:
- deaths

- dangerous occurrences
Injuries that prevent normal duties for more than 7 days (not including the day of the accident) must be reported online within 15 days.
