Caring for other people

If you look after someone who couldn’t manage without your help, you may be a carer. Telling us means we can offer you support.

Get support as a parent carer

If you care for a child or young person under 25 with additional support needs, you may be entitled to extra help.

This includes:

  • practical support
  • emotional help
  • financial advice

Parent carers assessment

A parent carers assessment looks at what support you need in your caring role.

Your needs should also be considered when planning care for your child. This can include:

  • employment
  • training and education
  • leisure activities
  • maintaining relationships and family life

How to request an assessment

Parent carers can self-refer.
