Cumberland Council will begin essential works to replace the existing culvert at Blackhall Wood, near Durdar, on Tuesday 26 August 2025.
To ensure the project is carried out safely and efficiently, a full road closure will be implemented at the site and will remain in place for the duration of the construction period.
The existing structure will be replaced with a durable precast concrete culvert. A temporary bridge will be installed downstream of the existing crossing to maintain access for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Access to the temporary bridge will be provided via the adjacent field, with signage in place to guide road users.
The project is expected to take around seven weeks, with completion anticipated by Monday 13 October 2025. Updates will be provided throughout the works, including confirmation of the reopening date.
Schedule of works:
• From 26 August: Construction of access and installation of the temporary bridge.
• Following completion of the temporary bridge: Replacement of the existing culvert with a precast concrete structure.
The council asks all road users to follow the diversion signage and use alternative routes. These restrictions are essential to ensure the safety of both the public and construction personnel. The full map of works including diversion routes can be viewed on One Network.
