Cumberland Council will shortly begin essential footway upgrade works on the A595 Castle Way, adjacent to the Castle.
Works are scheduled to start on Monday 6 October 2025 and are expected to last for up to fifteen days, subject to weather and site conditions.
To ensure the safety of both the workforce and the public, the works will be carried out under an official lane closure. The closure will extend for approximately 145 metres and will be undertaken in two separate phases. The closure will apply to the footpath and the left-hand lane only, with a signed pedestrian diversion route provided.
Working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 3.00pm, with lane closures lifted around peak travel times wherever possible.
Access to Carlisle Castle and for emergency services will be maintained throughout the duration of the works.
