Cumberland Council is reminding residents and road users that Phase 2 of its overnight resurfacing programme on the B5299 through Dalston village is due to start on Monday 10 August.
The essential carriageway resurfacing works will help improve the condition of the highway and support safer journeys for residents, businesses and visitors. Phase 2 of the scheme, from The Square to Bridge End Inn, will take place from Monday 10 August to Friday 4 September.
The works form part of Cumberland Council’s wider £27.3 million investment in highways for 2026/27, including £2.85 million dedicated to residential and rural roads, supporting improvements across the network. This includes fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and enhancing drainage, footways, cycleways, bridges and other key infrastructure, helping to create a safer, more resilient and better-connected network for communities.
To ensure the safety of both the workforce and road users, the scheme will be carried out under overnight road closures, with working hours between 6pm and 1am, and the road remaining closed until 3am each night to allow for site clearance and material curing.
A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the works. Access for emergency services, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
Due to the nature of the works, vehicle movements within the closure area will be restricted. While access may be arranged where possible, residents should expect some delays depending on site activity.
Cumberland Council recognises that these works may cause temporary disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
