Have your say on proposed Hackney Carriage taxi fares

Taxi light

Cumberland Council is consulting on proposed changes to Hackney Carriage (taxi) fares across the Cumberland area. The proposed fares set out the maximum rates that licensed Hackney Carriages can charge passengers.

  • The proposed changes include updates to:
  • Standard daytime fares
  • Evening and overnight fares
  • Bank Holiday, Christmas and New Year tariffs
  • Waiting time charges
  • Additional passenger and luggage charges
  • Other supplementary charges
  • The council is keen to hear the views of taxi drivers, operators, residents, businesses and anyone who may be affected by the proposed changes.

Councillor Bob Kelly, Cumberland Council's Executive Member for Regulatory Services, said: "Taxis play an important role in helping people travel across Cumberland, whether that's getting to work, accessing essential services or enjoying a night out safely. It is important that Hackney Carriage fares remain fair and balanced, taking into account the costs faced by drivers while ensuring services remain affordable for passengers.

"We want to hear from everyone who may be affected by these proposed changes, including drivers, operators, residents and local businesses. I would encourage anyone with an interest in taxi services to review the proposals and share their views as part of this consultation."
